The Must-Sees of New York

First things first, hello SPRING!! I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. Next thing I know it will be summertime!
To start off spring, over our one week spring break, my family and I traveled across the country to Concord, Massachusetts to visit our cousins! We played laser tag, pulled pranks on April 1st and even had a football game, in the SNOW!
Our whole vacation, though, was not spent with them. Unfortunately, our spring breaks are at different times. So while my cousins were in school, my family hopped on a train down to New York for three days! So here are some tips for visiting the Big Apple.

          1. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge: Find a day while you're there when the sun is shining and go take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It's about a 45 minute walk from the beginning of the walkway to the end on the other side of the river. We took a cab from lower Manhattan to DUMBO in Brooklyn. We decided to have lunch at Shake Shack in DUMBO then walk across the bridge. It was the perfect day, the weather was about 60 degrees outside with clear skies and a 100% chance of smiles! The view of Manhattan was incredible!! And, if you look very hard, you can even see the Statue of Liberty!

          2. Chelsea Market: If your family (and you) are undecided and in the mood for different      foods, then you definitely should go down to Chelsea Market. They have plenty of options, from        pizza to sushi to even lobster! I had the pizza at Filaga, and it was INCREDIBLE!! My mom had a      scrumptious clam chowder at the Lobster Place. We went on a cold, rainy day after going to Flying Tiger, an ADORABLE shop. We had heard about it being fantastic, so we hopped in a cab and headed down for a late lunch. The weird thing was that in the cab we saw a headline in the news that there was a fire just an hour earlier at Chelsea Market and that the tenants had to evacuate! We didn't know what to do, so we went anyway to see if it was open. I'm glad that we went, because surely enough it was open. If you're lucky enough to have time to go there, here's a couple of tips; go there when it's not too busy, because there were almost no open tables and the ones that were open you had to stand at. Also, go down through the whole market, after the Lobster Place down that hall there's beautiful lights and a clock, a great gelato place called L'Arte del Gelato, and a cute shop that has amazing knives that we got in Paris.

          3.  Flying Tiger: If you like pretty much anything that's cute, then you HAVE to go to Flying Tiger. It's my dream shop. Not only does it have pom-pom Easter bunnies and mason jars, they also have party napkins, decorations, and random $1 gifts! They even have mini pool tables, air hockey tables, labyrinth games and even table tennis. They also have organization tools like sticky notes, storage containers and pencil cases. And don't forget about the cute bike bells! Plus, they even have art tools like brushes, drawing pads and markers. My mom's and my long receipt included a strawberry-design bike bell, a travel hair brush, some cute knives, a cake word stamp, bread baskets and so much more! If your EVER in New York, you definitely should check it out.

          4.  Sockerbit: If you love adorable and colorful plates, bowls, utensils, platters and trays, or even candy, then you'd love this place. If not, then stop reading right now, because this won't interest you at ALL! On our last day in New York, while strolling around before going to the train station, we wandered upon this shop. Coincidentally, this is the same shop that my mom had heard of and wanted to go to! So we decided to peek inside, but we didn't just peek inside. We basically spent so much time there people could mistake us for working there! But who couldn't spend a TON of time there? I mean with the patterned trays, the butter knives and the teal cake platters. Not only do they have all those kitchen utensils and dishes, they also have rows and rows of bulk candy! They have all different types of sweets, from licorice to lollipops and even chocolate covered orange peels.

          5. Eric Kayser: You should've heard my mom's and my shrieks when we learned that one of our favorite bakeries in Paris is only two blocks away from our apartment in New York! In Paris, almost every morning we would walk down to the little bulongerie a couple of blocks away from our apartment in Paris. They have french pastries, cookies, sandwiches, coffee and even bread! I would DEFINITELY recommend Eric Kayser for anybody with taste buds.

I hope that these tips are helpful!
